TRANSMITTER HUNTS Sunday’s T-Hunt will start
at 2:00 PM on 9/19/10 from southwest parking lot
of Convention Location. This Hunt will be more difficult then Saturday’s
Hunt and probably challenging for beginners. There will be 4-5 T’s
within a 20 mile radius and sniffing equipment will be required. Standard
Passenger Vehicles also acceptable. Team with the lowest mileage and
most tags from T’s to return to the finish point (Montgomery Field
which is just to the east of Convention Location) by 6:00 PM will be
declared the winner. We plan on having dinner at the Mexican Restaurant
at the finish line and awarding prizes for first & Second Place.
If you are not registered for the convention you are not eligible for
prizes but still welcome to hunt. As an added bonus we will subtract
1 mile per transmitter (found) if you are a beginner or not a member
of our regular San Diego T-Hunt Group. Even if you do not have sniffing
gear you should be able to come out and have some fun and see the sights
of San Diego. The San Diego T-Hunt Group has been experimenting with
APRS while T-Hunting so those of you that are APRS enabled I encourage
you to check in with us at the beginning to verify call signs so we
can attempt to track you as you hunt. Handouts with any specific rules
or additional information will be available at start point. A large FREE Flea Market will
be held Saturday morning, Sept 18, 2010 just before the ARRL SWD Convention
opens, and lasting until around 10:30 AM. Gates open at 6AM PDT. Spaces
are limited so please only use the area you need. First come, first
serve. All FREE, but we do request you visit the Convention afterward.
Ham Radio and Electronics items only, Please. Flea Market will be in
the Far West parking lot of the Hotel, near the Communications Vans
exhibit. Please remove anything not sold afterward. “Special Event” Amateur Radio Station W1AW/6 to be “on the air” Along with a host of Exhibitors and Speakers, our Saturday Swap Meet and Display of Communications Vans, we’ll be operating a Special Event Amateur Radio Station using the American Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) California call sign W1AW/6 on an HF radio provided by ICOM America for our use at the Convention. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to be the cause of a “pile-up”, this is your chance. Pull up a chair, grab the mic and call “CQ, this is W1AW/6”..you’ll be amazed at what you catch! For our Convention, we’ll be keeping track of our contacts by using N3FJP logging software. When we receive direct QSL’s including an S.A.S.E., we’ll be returning specially designed “W1AW/6 2010 ARRL Southwestern Division Convention” QSL Cards. Manufacturer’s Radio’s “On the Air” Demonstrations We’ve offered manufacturers of High Frequency (HF) Radio’s the opportunity to set up actual “On the Air” demonstration radio stations for you to acquaint yourselves with. At these stations will be knowledgeable representatives to walk you through operation of the radio’s “Bells and Whistles” helping you decide which rig you’ll be taking home with you from the Convention. Manufacturers will have to share “Air” time in two hour blocks which will leave each manufacturer ½ hour every two hours…with a “real” antenna. As of this writing, ICOM and Elecraft will have demonstration radio’s set up. If you like what you see, retailers of Amateur Radio Equipment will be just a few steps away waiting for you to make your purchases. Convention Talk-In on 2 meters: Call Sign - K6SLF As is typical for this type of event, we’ll have one of our 2 meter radios set on 146.520 FM Simplex and the other 2 meter Radio on 145.320 ( - ) PL 107.2 Hz. and will be able to assist you with directions on how to find us. * Please note, Our Call Sign for “Talk-In” will be K6SLF We hope to see you in September, 73,
